The Doxy Die Cast is a powerful plug-in wand that boasts more rpm power than the original Hitachi Magic Wand, with some notable upgrades. I received mine for free from Doxy for this review.
The Doxy Die Cast measures 13″ long and is about 2.4″ in diameter. It plugs into the wall with a 10′ cord. It weighs in at a hefty 1lb. 8oz. The rounded head is made of silicone. This means it’s not compatible with silicone lube. It also means it’s nonporous and can be used on the genitals directly and cleaned with soap & water or sanitized with a 10% bleach solution or a bit of rubbing alcohol if necessary. It comes in a variety of colors. I have the silver aluminum version, but it’s also available in white, black, and sparkly purple and red. Doxy is so awesome, they include a storage case.
The buttons are easy to press, and it’s fairly straightforward to operate. Press the on/off button and it will come alive, remembering its last setting. Use the – button to turn it down and feel deep, thuddy vibrations. Press the + button and it will ramp up. It’s a bit buzzier at high speeds. It also includes an escalation function; hold down the power button to activate this function and use the + and – buttons to dictate how fast the escalations go (the intensity is fixed, however). There’s no set number of speeds, but the speed changes quickly. You have to lightly tap the buttons to gradually change speed.
It comes with a 1-year warranty. Proof of purchase is required to make sure you buy it from a reputable retailer and hang on to your receipt!
I’ve had my faithful Magic Wand Original plugged in next to my bedside for some time now. It’s impossible not to compare the Doxy Die Cast to the only other wand I currently own. I’ll do my best to highlight the major differences, but it’s important to note the Doxy Die Cast is more of a luxury toy, a splurge. It does so much more and does one thing for me the Magic Wand doesn’t do for me: multiple clitoral orgasms. However, I suspect the Magic Wand Rechargeable, with its silicone head, would be more of an apples to apples comparison.
At first, I had a hard time achieving orgasm at all. The cause seems to be the difference in the shape of the head. The Magic Wand Original’s head is cylindrical, with a “corner” I can wedge on the right side of my clitoris. The Doxy Die Cast is spherical, meaning I have to focus on pressure and letting the rumbly vibrations penetrate internally. When I close my thighs around it, my whole lower body feels the vibrations. It takes longer to orgasm, but it’s a more powerful, satisfying orgasm. I can achieve multiple orgasms due to the varying speed controls. After the first one, I can quickly turn the speed down to a low rumble, and build back up much more easily.
The escalation setting is interesting, but it gets a bit too powerful for me, so I don’t find this feature particularly useful. You might if you need more power than I do. This wand has power in spades.
I will note it’s heavier than the Magic Wand Original. Sometimes my hand cramps trying to get the right angle and pressure. This can be distracting. If you have grip or strength issues, this is not the toy for you, and I can’t say how well it fits in sex furniture designed to hold wands, since those are usually based of the dimensions of the Magic Wand.
The lovely case makes storage easy, although it doesn’t lock. Personally, I leave my Doxy Die Cast next to my bedside in a drawer, since my nightstand drawers have outlets. This has now become one of my top 5 most frequently used toys.
Attachments tend to sit on top like a hat, as opposed to completely covering the head like on the Magic Wand Original. Since the head is matte silicone, there’s some wrangling to get them on. I tried it with my Vixen Gee Whizzard. It was a tight fit, but worked out just fine.
Despite my nitpicks, this has become one of my favorite toys. I love the adjustable intensities and the rumbliness of the vibrations. I love that is has that extra oomph if I need it.
If you need lots of power, want a body-safe head, and need a longer cord and more variable speed, the Doxy Die Cast is right up your alley. It’s got a lot of great features that make it worth the price if you’re in the market for an ultra powerful wand.
