Goodbye, Orgasmatronics 1

20151115_154812Orgasmatronics is no more.

I received an e-mail last week announcing their closure to affiliates. Soon after, their newsletter followed. They’ve filed for bankruptcy and gone out of business.

I was really excited when, the weekend before, they seemed to have a flash 50% off sale all of a sudden. Apparently, that was the liquidation of all the toys and Clitardis t-shirts. They liquidated everything. I tried to get a spare X2 and Master Beta kit.

I’m really bummed, because the X2 is one of my favorite sex toys. I’m seriously worried that when mine finally breaks down, I’ll never be able to find another one. I’m super careful with how I use the Polly dildo harness now. If I manage to tear the silicone, I won’t be able to get another one.

And so it goes sometimes in this industry. Orgasmatronics relied heavily on crowd funding for their ideas. Popular products don’t guarantee the ability to run a business, though. I get that, as a business owner myself. Working for yourself carries with it a certain sense of freedom, but there is a trade-off. There’s a certain level of security in employment. I know for me, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. There are no sick days. There will always be expenses. And in this industry, it’s not like there are any grants to apply for. Crowd funding can only take you so far. Sometimes, that’s just the way it goes. I probably should’ve quit the toy party thing by now. Honestly, I probably should have quit blogging by now (that, too, is a business, believe it or not – I can’t go bleeding out the cost of running a website every year). But these are things I love to do.

And I know the Orgasmatronics team loved what they did. So, maybe we might see familiar names behind the scenes of other great companies in the future. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll see a few familiar products someday. That’s just a hope against hope, though. I tend to be a bit sentimental.

If you were lucky enough to grab an X2 or Master Beta kit or Ambrosia set, cherish it while you have it. Get a ton of great use out of it. Take care of it, though. Chances are, you won’t be able to replace it.
